Outdoors
Red Rock Canyon Scenic Loop is $20 per vehicle but the visitor center and Calico Basin picnic area outside the loop are free. The Historic Railroad Trail near Hoover Dam: free 3.7-mile walk through five old tunnels with lake views. Sand Harbor at Tahoe has free walk-in access if you park at the shoulder half a mile away. Nevada Northern Railway grounds in Ely are free to walk around outside train hours.
Culture and quirks
Neon Museum's outdoor Brilliant! projection show is $20 but you can see the Boneyard signs from the sidewalk on Las Vegas Boulevard North any time. The International Car Forest in Goldfield is free — 40 cars planted nose-down in the desert on a hillside. Rhyolite ghost town near Beatty has free access to the ruins and the Goldwell Open Air Museum's ghost sculptures. Nevada State Museum in Carson City is $8 but free on many holidays.
