Las Vegas Strip
The Strip is 4.2 miles of casino hotels along Las Vegas Boulevard South. Stay mid-Strip (Bellagio to Park MGM) for walkability, north Strip (Wynn, Resorts World) for newer rooms and quieter pools, or south Strip (Mandalay Bay, Delano) for airport access. Budget: Excalibur or Luxor from $60 midweek. Mid: Park MGM or Paris from $180. Splurge: Waldorf Astoria or Fontainebleau from $500. Resort fees add $40 to $55 a night on top of every quoted rate.
Downtown Las Vegas
Fremont Street: cheaper, grittier, more character. Circa (adults-only, from $150) is the best new build in a decade. The D and Golden Nugget cover the mid-range from $80. El Cortez is the old-school pick with $65 rooms and one of the last non-corporate casino floors in America. Downtown is a $12 Uber to the Strip; the Deuce bus is $8 for 24 hours.
Reno and Lake Tahoe
Reno's Riverwalk district around Virginia Street has the Renaissance Reno Downtown (from $140) and the Whitney Peak (from $170, non-gaming). Skip the older casinos on the edges. On Lake Tahoe's Nevada shore, the Hyatt Regency Incline Village runs $400 and up with a private beach; Stateline has the Hard Rock from $200. Reno is a workable base for day trips to Tahoe, Virginia City and Pyramid Lake.
Small-town Nevada
For a US Route 50 road trip, the Hotel Nevada in Ely ($75), the Mizpah in Tonopah ($110) and the St. Charles in Pioche ($90) are the historic picks — all real buildings from the mining era, all functional. Mesquite has the CasaBlanca resort ($95) if you want a golf-and-pool base near Valley of Fire and the Utah line.
