Getting there and around
The main gateway is Kahului Airport (OGG), about 30 minutes by car from Wailea via Route 31 (Piilani Highway) or Route 311. Bicycles and walking paths connect some areas, but distances can be long. Parking is generally available at beaches and resorts.
When to go
Wailea is a year-round destination, but the most popular time to visit is during the drier months from April to October. Winter months (December to March) can bring more rain and cooler temperatures, though still mild. The whale-watching season runs from December to April, when humpback whales can be seen from shore. Summer is busier with families, while spring and fall offer fewer crowds. Trade winds provide a cooling breeze most of the year.
