Getting there and around

Salt Lake City International Airport is about seven miles west of downtown and is served by many major airlines. From the airport, you can take a taxi, rideshare, or the TRAX light rail Green Line, which connects directly to downtown. Interstate 15 and I-80 provide road access from the north, south, and east. Once in the city, getting around is easy with TRAX light rail, the FrontRunner commuter train, and buses operated by UTA. Downtown is compact and walkable, and a free fare zone on TRAX and buses in the central area makes short trips convenient. Bicycles and scooters are also available for rent.

When to go

The best times to visit are spring (April to May) and fall (September to October), when temperatures are mild and outdoor activities are pleasant. Summer can be hot and dry, with highs often in the 90s Fahrenheit, while winter brings snow and cold, ideal for skiing at the nearby resorts. Winter also offers holiday lights and events downtown. If you plan to ski, January and February typically have the best snow conditions.
