Most visitors arrive by air at Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport, about 30 miles south, with seasonal direct flights from several U.S. hubs; Denver International Airport is a longer drive over mountain passes. By road, the main approach is U.S. 50 to Gunnison, then Colorado 135 north to Crested Butte. Once in town, Elk Avenue and the base area are walkable, and a free shuttle connects downtown and Mount Crested Butte in winter. A car is useful for reaching trailheads and other parts of the valley.
